Hipot Testers

Hipot or High Potential Testing also commonly known as dielectric withstand test is a test done where a device under test (DUT) is supplied a high voltage, typically much higher than the typically required load.

The purpose is to stress the dielectric properties of the DUT in order to highlight the adequacy of the electrical insulation to withstand voltage transients. However, it can also be used to test for gaps or clearances between conductive paths and earth. This could be in the form of gaps in insulation, pinholes, shorts, and or faulty components.
